The Cold & Flu Tea
Ailment: When one suffers common cold, cough, or seasonal flu symptoms. This is an excellent home remedy with a long history or safety and efficacy.
Quantity: Makes 4 cups
Ingredients: Ginger, Cloves, Cinnamon, Cardamom, Turmeric, Tulsi, Neem, Honey.
Procedure: Bring 4½ cups of water to a boil. Add one-half teaspoon each of powdered ginger (or 1 inch of fresh grated ginger), clove, cardamom, and cinnamon to the water. When the water boils, add one teaspoon each of tulsi and neem powders and let the decoction simmer on low heat for 5 min. Strain into clean kettle or other vessel. When drinking, mix 1-2 teaspoons honey into cup. Drink warm; reheat as necessary.
Dosage: 3-4 cups/day either with or between meals. Discontinue if you experience stomach acidity (very rare!)
*Note: This decoction will cause phlegm to expectorate and will cause sweating. The tulsi and neem will help control fever if present. If the oral temperature exceeds101° Fahrenheit, please seek medical attention.
