New Patients Who Have Never Consulted with Dr. Scott Gerson (or Not in 2 Years)
First, write down all your questions and call us to discuss your health situation. Dr. Gerson is a very experienced and insightful physician and there usually is a path back to balance and health no matter how dire the situation may seem. However, there are situations for which Ayurveda and Panchakarma are not appropriate. Our knowledgeable staff can help you understand and guide you with utmost care.
If you then feel Private Panchakarma is appropriate for you, you must first firmly decide on the dates and confirm with us. Then arrange an Initial Comprehensive Medical Consultation with Dr. Gerson. You will arrange that through his office. If humanly possible, that consultation should take place in person at least 5 days prior to your scheduled treatments begin, preferably earlier. These comprehensive consultations generally last 1 ½ to 2 hours and cost $400. Many questions will be asked so please be prepared to speak candidly, openly, and in detail about life and health matters.
If an in-person Initial Consultation is not possible, we offer Skype consultations with the doctor. The time duration and cost is the same.
*If you have consulted with Dr. Gerson previously but not for the past two years, OR if you have a new serious medical condition of which he is not aware, you must also schedule a preliminary Established Patient Comprehensive Medical Consultation prior to attending Panchakarma. Cost and duration are the same. If you are uncertain whether this applies to you, we can discuss and help you decide. Incidentally, the “two year” comprehensive consultation requirement is a legal statute and not an arbitrary policy.
After that consultation, the doctor will decide which preparatory procedures (Purvakarma) are required for you to complete before coming to Panchakarma. These usually involve all or some of the following: special preparatory herbal medicines, home procedures to support proper digestion and mobilization of ama, internal oleation, laxative therapy, or external self-oil massage.
We recommend confirmation of your Panchakarma dates directly with Dr. Gerson. Please click here for new patient forms to be filled out and emailed to Dr. Gerson prior to your Initial Comprehensive Medical Consultation.
Established Patients Who Have Previously Consulted with Dr. Scott Gerson Within 2 Years
There is no legal or practical requirement for a preliminary medical consultation. On the first day of treatments, you will be asked to arrive 30 minutes early so that Dr. Gerson man speak with you, examine you, and explain your treatment plan. Also—bear in mind that you will be having lunch with the doctor and will have ample time to discuss medical (as well as various and sundry) matters. However, it is up to your own discretion if you think a formal preliminary comprehensive consultation would be useful.
We also request that you send us by email a summary of your current health status and concerns including all medicines, supplements, and herbs you are currently taking, at least a week (sooner if possible) prior to arriving. We will send you the appropriate preparatory procedures.
For Both New and Established Patients: Additional Information
Your daily treatments take place at Dr. Gerson’s beautiful GIAM Panchakarma facility located at 602 Skinner Blvd. Dunedin, Florida 34698. Our telephone number is (727) 371 -1000. Our email is giam@gersonayurveda.com. Please do not hesitate to either call or email us with your questions.
You have the option to stay at any one of a number of hotels or B&B’s in the Dunedin area. Uber service and taxis are here in Dunedin, Florida as well, however, we recommend using Uber as it is more reasonably priced.
You will be given an appointment time by us for when you need to arrive every morning; it is usually sometime between 7:00 and 11:00 am. Dr. Scott Gerson will be present and will personally perform a minimum of 50 percent of the treatments. The additional treatments will be administered under his supervision by our expertly trained and experienced senior Ayurveda Therapists. After your therapy, you will relax a while and have an Ayurvedic lunch with Dr. Gerson, and perhaps, other staff members on designated days. On the other days, lunch will be on your own. After lunch, you will return to your hotel, perform any additional required procedures (i.e. herbalized enema), and then you have the remainder of the day free. GIAM offers a one hour, specially designed, gentle Ayurveda Yoga class at 5 pm which Dr. Gerson feels is a perfect way to end your daily treatments, relax, and center yourself before your next days treatments begin again.
Dinner is on your own and Dr. Gerson or the staff will guide you with excellent local recommendations. The basic requirement is to eat a simple, plant-based light meal consisting of grains, legumes, and vegetables.
